SAfm

SAfm is a nationally recognised radio station that brings you the latest news and thought-provoking talk shows. Based in Auckland Park, Johannesburg at Radio Park, it has a long and storied history dating back to 1936, when it was first established along with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). Starting out as “A Programme,” the station went through several name changes, finally settling on SAfm in 1995.

At the height of its popularity, SAfm was known for its diverse programming, offering everything from music and arts to sports and children’s shows. It was also a pioneer in the talk show format and current affairs programming. However, in the late 1990s, the station made a shift towards news and information, and in the process, reduced the amount of drama and music and fully embraced a live talk show format. Children and teenage programming were also discontinued during this time.

In 2006, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) stepped in and instructed SAfm to bring back both drama and children’s programming, which the station has done. Today, SAfm remains a leading source for news, information, and engaging talk shows.
